Bemahague School update

by isleofman.com 26th January 2008
We should find out next week if the proposed secondary school at Bemahague in Onchan is to go ahead in the foreseeable future.

In the House of Keys next week, North Douglas MHK John Houghton (pictured) will ask the Treasury Minister if provision has been made for the building to get underway in the financial year 2008/2009, following Tynwald approval.

Work on the facility was originally scheduled to begin in 2006, with the aim of the school replacing the existing St Ninian's Park Road Lower School by 2010.

It was also proposed to have external sports facilities open at an earlier date for community use.

The Bemahague development was seen as central to the Department of Education's strategy for the east of the Island.
