Manx music book launched

by isleofman.com 24th January 2008
A new music book and CD have been launched for infant and primary schools in the Isle of Man as a teaching aid for Manx language and cultural studies.

'Gow Ayrn' is a collection of 40 Manx songs, tunes and dances, specially selected to complement the national curriculum for music here.

The Manx Heritage Foundation is behind the resource and says the aim is to encourage awareness of local culture, aid Manx Gaelic lessons and support a new teaching methodology currently being brought in by the Isle of Man Music Service.

The book was launched at the Department of Education with (pictured l-r): Dr Chloe Woolley; MHF Administrator Charles Guard; Head of the Island’s Music Service, Graham Kirkland; and Education Minister Anne Craine.
