Ban and fine for drink driving

by isleofman.com 23rd January 2008
An 18 year-old St Mark's man who admitted drink driving has been fined ?500 and banned from holding a licence for twelve months.

Ashley Southern was stopped by police in the early hours of December 16, after being seen driving a white van along Cooil Road, Braddan.

Officers noted Southern smelled of alcohol and he gave a breath test reading of 45 micrograms, compared with a legal limit of 35.

After being arrested, Southern said he had consumed three pints of beer during a meal, which ended at 9.30pm.

His advocate said he was remorseful and was employed full-time as a joiner.

High Bailiff Michael Moyle said he doubted Southern was telling the truth about the quantity of alcohol he had consumed, but the level of intoxication was not overly high.

In addition to the fine and the driving ban, Southern was ordered to pay ?80 costs by April 30.
