Conversions can't be stopped - Brown

by isleofman.com 22nd January 2008
Chief Minister Tony Brown has made it clear that market forces will determine the future of tourism in the Isle of Man.

Questioned in the House of Keys by Onchan MHK Peter Karran, Mr Brown pointed out support was available to people who wanted to invest in the industry, but they would only do so if the business was there to provide a return.

Mr Karran was seeking measures to prevent such hotels as the Grand Island, Castletown Golf Links and Castlemona from being permitted a change of use.

Mr Brown (pictured) said he was content with existing planning laws and that the market would find its own level.

He also remind members that two new hotels were planned for the bus station area in Douglas.
