Majority wants Ramsey Pier saved

by isleofman.com 22nd January 2008
A survey of homes both in and outside Ramsey has given the 'save the pier' option a clear majority.

71% of respondents in the poll, organised for the Council of Ministers Working Group considering the future of the pier, want the ancient structure saved, and suggest either refurbishment or restoration.

But an impressive 64% want it saved, but as part of a wider marina development.

Only 6% favoured demolition, and 3% preferred the ‘Do nothing’ option.

Of the 3,000 questionnaires sent to addresses selected at random – 60 per cent in Ramsey and 40 per cent outside the town – 1365 were completed and returned, giving a response rate of 46 per cent.

Consultation on the future of Queen’s Pier continued on Sunday evening with a stakeholder workshop in Ramsey involving interested parties. Members of Tynwald will also have an opportunity for input before the Working Group finalises its report to the Council of Ministers.
