Tighter focus on recycling

The Isle of Man may be on the verge of a major change of direction in the way we handle our waste.

Speaking on last night's Agenda programme, Environment Minister John Shimmin said recycling must become the focus for the future.

Later this year his department hopes to launch a major recycling drive in Douglas, Onchan and Braddan.

He said the Incinerator (or Energy From Waste plant, pictured) was built for the right reasons - but admitted it gave people little encouragement to recycle:
