Big wins for top sides

by isleofman.com 19th January 2008
The top hockey sides in men’s Division One made it two wins out of two in emphatic style on Saturday.

Reigning champions Bacchas A went on the rampage to demolish Castletown A 14-0, while arch rivals Valkyrs A hit Vikings A for six.

Karl Moore led the Bacchas’ rout with four goals.

Richard Le Page hit a hat-trick, Jamie Cox added a double and there were further goals from Gareth Craig, James Wright, Robin Perrie, John Rimmer and Pete Hodgson.

Meanwhile, the westerners thrashed Vikings A 6-1, thanks to doubles from Neil Jacobs, Chris Thomas and Chris Caldwell.

Ramsey A maintained their 100 per cent start with a 2-0 victory over Vikings B – James Atchison and Dan Stevens the scorers.

However, perhaps the result of the day saw Bacchas B see off Saracens in a nine goal thriller with a team comprising fully of players under the age of 18.

Doubles from Glen Bloxham-Mundy and Danny Shuttleworth, and a Ben Kelly strike, secured victory and possibly made Manx hockey history in the process.

Saracens’ scorers were Anton Bolton, Steve Cottier, John Hargen and Johnny Killey.

It was a similar story in women’s Division One with champions Bacchas A defeating Castletown A 5-1.

Niamh Goddard (two), Donna Harrison (two) and Kelly Shimmin were the scorers with Kate Sutton netting the Town consolation.

Elsewhere, Ali Breen hit four as Ramsey A were 6-1 winners over Valkyrs B, while Valkyrs A saw off Harlequins 2-0.
