Let's publish crime figures, MLC urges

Crime figures for the Isle of Man should in future be published in the Chief Constable's report - so crime trends are clear for all to see.

That call from Dudley Butt MLC (pictured), who asked the Home Affairs Minister for a breakdown of crime statistics in Tynwald this week.

He was told cases of wounding and assualt rose significantly in 2007 - compared to the previous year.

The number of GBH cases fell - but there were striking increases in cases of actual bodily harm and common assault.

Mr Butt says alcohol fuels this type of crime - and it's becoming a problem - even though there's a strong perception people believe the Island is a safe place (audio file attached):
