Views sought on hotel plan

by isleofman.com 18th January 2008
The views of Peel residents on a hotel proposal for the town are again being sought by the local commissioners.

From Monday, questionnaires will be sent out to all properties to see what people think of the plans to sell a piece of land at the end of the promenade, on the old swimming pool site, so the hotel and apartment complex can be built.

The commissioners plan to ask the Department of Local Government and the
Environment for approval to sell the land, which DoLGE refused in May last year.

Edward Oldham reports (text, below) from attached audio file:

In a letter accompanying the questionnaire the commissioners say it's important to gather the views of as many households as possible.

It says under the Peel Local Plan the land is designated for tourism and leisure use and that with all its unique tourist attractions the town is ideally placed to take advantage of the continued demand for quality accommodation for both business and holiday visitors.

And the commissioners believe having a hotel in Peel would boost employment, local visitor spending and possibly offer extra leisure facilities for local residents.

They are urging everyone in the town to take the time to complete and return the questionnaire, so they can have their say on the matter.
