Tynwald appoints footpath delegation

by isleofman.com 16th January 2008
A three member delegation from Tynwald has been given the task of sorting out the access issue in relation to a public footpath at Langness.

The pressure group PRoWL (Public Rights of Way Langness) has been in disagreement with television presenter Jeremy Clarkson, after he re-routed a footpath around his home, to protect his privacy.

The issue was raised by Transport Minister David Anderson, and there was extensive debate about whether there should be a public inquiry into the matter.

Some members felt this approach would be costly and inappropriate, with North Douglas MHK Bill Henderson calling the whole episode 'a storm in a teacup'.

After a slight amendment from Local Government Minister John Shimmin, members supported the idea of a Tynwald delegation meeting whoever was deemed appropriate, to try and sort out the matter of public access.

The delegation will be accompanied by a representative from the Attorney General's chambers.
