Appeal to sign Chernobyl petition

by isleofman.com 16th January 2008
There's one month left to show support for an Isle of Man charity which helps youngsters from Eastern Europe.

The Friends of Chernobyl’s Children is fighting the United Kingdom government after it introduced new biometric visa rules, which the organisation says makes its job almost impossible.

Each year, a large group of children from Belarus are brought to the Island for a holiday, but the visa rules mean the children may not be able to enter Britain.

Norman Rivers, of the Island’s branch of the Friends of Chernobyl’s Children, says a petition has been set up on the UK government’s website.

He is hoping more than 1,000 people will sign up and force a rethink of the rule changes.

But the deadline for people to add their names to the list is February 15, and he is reminding people they can easily show their support.
