Manx seafarers on shipping database

by isleofman.com 16th January 2008
A Cumbrian man who has created a database of ships which sailed the Irish Sea over a period of 50 years is inviting people to contact him to trace their ancestors.

Maurice Mckendry collected details of vessels and crewmen between 1863 and 1913 by going through 90,000 pages of ships' logs.

He says there are plenty of Manx ships and sailors in the database, and he has already had requests for information from the Island.

Maurice, who lives in Maryport, would like to contact one Manx woman in particular who has already been in touch with him (audio file attached):

If you would like to find out more, you can email Maurice@mckendry.fsnet.co.uk
