Andy Kershaw jailed for three months

by isleofman.com 15th January 2008
BBC radio presenter Andy Kershaw has been jailed for three months after admitting breaching a restraining order.

The 48 year-old DJ, who lives in Peel, also admitted being drunk and disorderly.

This morning (Tuesday), High Bailiff Michael Moyle was given psychological and social inquiry reports and a report from the drug and alcohol team.

He said Kershaw’s plight was entirely of his own making.

Jason Roberts reports (audio file attached):

Mr Moyle was told Kershaw had committed offences out of sheer frustration because he couldn’t see his children.

No violence was used and the offences were relatively minor, his advocate said.

But Mr Moyle said jail was inevitable and handed down two three-month sentences to run concurrently – alongside an activated suspended sentence which was also three months.

Mr Moyle said he found Kershaw polite and personable – and said he didn’t want to see him in court again.
