Anglers bid for winter fishing

by isleofman.com 12th January 2008
One or more of the Island’s reservoirs could be opened for angling from next winter.

Reservoirs are currently closed to angling each year from the end of October until early March.

However, MHK Graham Cregeen (pictured), member for fisheries in the Department of Agriculture, says he’s been approached by a number of anglers about the possibility of winter opening.

He says while existing budget and manpower commitments would make it impossible for all reservoirs to be opened, or for them to be stocked during the winter, it could be worth introducing a ‘winter ticket’ with a reduced catch limit, possibly on a trial basis, from next winter.

Anglers wishing to comment should write to Mr Cregeen at Legislative Buildings in Douglas or contact him via e-mail: graham.cregeen@gov.im before the end of March.
