Ballahutchin closure this evening

by isleofman.com 11th January 2008
Police will close a section of the main Peel Road this evening in order to investigate a fatal road collision which happened last month.

The section of road between the junctions with Strang Road at Union Mills and Ballagarey at Glen Vine will be closed for around an hour from 7pm.

Eighteen year old Darren Self died when his motorcycle collided with a car at the top of the Ballahutchin at around 5.20pm on December 19.

Police are apologising for the inconvenience the closure will cause members of the public, but say the closure is needed for essential enquiries to be carried out.

Officers say an appeal for witnesses has so far been successful with a reasonable number of people coming forward. However, they would still like to speak to the driver of a burgundy coloured 4 x 4 vehicle which was travelling towards Douglas around the time of the accident.

This vehicle may have been overtaken by a motorcycle, also travelling towards Douglas, in the Greeba Castle area.

Anyone who can help is asked to ring the Roads Policing Unit on 631212.
