Jailed for third drink driving offence

by isleofman.com 4th January 2008
A 47 year-old man has been jailed for four months by High Bailiff Michael Moyle, after admitting a third offence of drink driving.

Graham Richard Cowin, of Heather Crescent, Pulrose was stopped by police in Anagh Coar, at 10pm on November 7, after being followed from Pulrose.

He was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and blood samples gave a reading of 326 milligrammes of alcohol, more than four times over the legal limit.

Cowin's advocate said the defendant had been at an engagement party, had a substantial meal and felt fit to drive. He also pointed out that Cowin's last conviction was in effect in 1993, when he had been jailed for 36 months for causing death by reckless driving.

Mr Moyle said the matter was very serious, and banned Cowin from driving for 8 years.

He had previously been banned for ten years in 1993.
