Free fire checks could save lives

A recent house fire in Anagh Coar has illustrated the lifesaving potential of smoke alarms and shows exactly why we should all have them fitted in our properties.

That's the message from the Isle of Man Fire Service, which says the family was saved when their alarm woke them up and alerted them to the blaze.

The service has also sent out a reminder that it offers free home safety checks. To arrange a home safety check, call Fire Headquarters on 647303 or 647329 and ask for the Community Safety Team, or email cs@gov.im

Community Safety Officer Steve Cretney says they'll advise you on things like electrical plugs, kitchen appliances and, very importantly, candles:
