Illiam Dhone ceremony today

by isleofman.com 2nd January 2008
This afternoon (Weds) sees the annual commemoration of the death of Manx patriot Illiam Dhone - or Wiiliam Christian - who was executed by shooting on the second of January 1663.

The ceremony takes place at Hango Hill near Castletown on the Derbyhaven coast road, and comprises an oration in Manx by Greg Joughin, and another in English by Angela Moffatt (pictured).

Her father is the Celtic League's Bernard Moffatt - who says everyone who calls the island 'home' is welcome, not just Manx nationalists:

The ceremony begins at Hango Hill at 2 o'clock this afternoon.
