Candle causes New Year's Day blaze

by isleofman.com 1st January 2008
A Douglas family had a lucky escape this morning after a smouldering candle set their lounge alight.

Fire crews were called to the property in Anagh Coar just after 4.30am.

The three occupants were taken to hospital suffering from the effects of smoke inhalation, and their pet dog had to be rescued from upstairs.

A Fire Services spokesperson said they were able to leave the house safely because they were alerted by their smoke alarms.

Householders are being urged to ensure they have working detectors installed in their homes.
