Computers have big impact on schools

The Department of Education's former ICT Advisor, who has just been awarded an MBE in the Queen's New Year Honours List, says it has been fascinating to see how computers have enhanced learning in schools in the Isle of Man.

John Thornley, who has been recognised for services to education in the Island, retired recently after nearly 20 years in the position.

He says since 2000 there has been a rapid increase in the provision of laptops for Manx schools, starting with headteachers, teachers and then many pupils:
