OBE dedicated to constituents

The President of Tynwald has dedicated the award of an OBE in the New Year Honours List to the constituents he has served over the years.

Noel Cringle has been given the honour for public service in the Isle of Man.

Mr Cringle was a Rushen MHK from 1974 until 1986 and again from 1991 to 2000, during which time he was Speaker of the House of Keys for four years. He has been President of Tynwald since 2000.

He has also served on Arbory Commissioners, is Chairman of the Manx Music Festival and is a Life Member of Laa Columb Killey among other commitments.

Mr Cringle says he has some regrets about his political career, including losing his seat in 1986 because of an unfavourable public reaction to a decision to locate communications masts around the Island, while he was Chairman of Home Affairs:
