Fire damages historic building

Fire investigators are trying to piece together the background to a fire which has partly gutted an historic Douglas building.

The castellated home, on the hillside overlooking the inner harbour, was being renovated.

It's speculated that someone may have broken in and lit a fire inside the building.

The owner of the home, a joiner, had been working it for four years.

He is too distressed to speak, but his father says the building is steeped in history:
