Charity battles red tape

An Island-based charity says it’ll keep battling to overcome red tape which threatens to put a stop to its good work.

Each year, the Friends of Chernobyl’s Children brings a group of underprivileged youngsters to the Island from Belarus.

But new British rules say the children must have biometric visas, meaning they’ll have to travel for five hours to the nearest city in order to get them.

That, and the cost of applying for so many children, has given the organisation huge difficulties.

But Norman Rivers of the Friends of Chernobyl’s Children, says he’s trying to put pressure on the UK authorities:
