Harbours Bill

by isleofman.com 24th December 2007
What will they do with the Drunken Sailor?

That’s the question being asked in a bill which proposes introducing controls on drugs and alcohol use by individuals in charge of vessels.

Ramsey Commissioners have added their support to the Draft Harbours Bill, which also calls for powers relating to vessel insurance.

At their monthly meeting, commissioner’s attention was drawn to the additional cost of insurance for small boat owners, however the majority of members felt it reasonable to expect boats owners to hold insurance in the same manner as car and plane owners.

With regard to alcohol and drugs related controls, commissioner Richard Radcliffe told members it was unacceptable any person in charge of a vessel should be concerned with alcohol.

A letter of support has been sent to the Department of Transport.
