An appeal has been launched to trace the family of a Douglas man who died in Noble’s Hospital earlier this month.
Fifty-eight year-old builder Robert George Roberts, of Christian Road, died from pneumonia on December 4, less than a fortnight after he was struck by a car in Ramsey.
His inquest has been opened to allow the body to be released, but funeral arrangements are on hold as authorities have been unable to trace his next of kin.
Mr Roberts, who was born in Scotland, was struck by a car on November 20 in Queen's Pier Road, at its junction with Albert Road. He suffered a broken leg.
Police and the Coroner believe he may have family living in the North West of England, namely a step-son, Paul Dunnet, who it’s believed could live in Burnley, and a step-daughter, Fiona Dunnet, who is thought to live in Liverpool.
An appeal has already been made on BBC Radio Merseyside, without success.
In the absence of any relatives, Mr Roberts's body was identified by his friend, Christian Aid area officer Phil Craine.
Adjourning the inquiry, Coroner Michael Moyle expressed sadness at the situation and said if the family couldn't be found, the DHSS would be asked to arrange a funeral.
However, Mr Moyle said it was a route he was reluctant to go down, especially as a family member could later get in touch.
Anyone who may be able to help locate a relative of Mr Roberts is asked to contact police on 631212.
