EU fishing cuts could affect Island

European Union fishing quotas aimed at rewarding conservation will cause concern to a number of local fishermen, according to the head of the Manx Fish Producers Organisation.

Earlier this week a deal was reached to reduce fishing days off the west coast of Scotland by 18 per cent, and days in the North Sea by ten per cent, with an eleven per cent rise in the North Sea cod catch.

Chief Executive of the MFPO Tom Bryan-Brown (pictured) understands the reasons behind some of the cuts, but says the news does have potential implications for the Island:
