Mobile phone penalties re-examined

Authorities in the Isle of Man are re-examing penalties, after a change in the law in the United Kingdom over driving dangerously while using a mobile phone.

New guidelines mean courts can now jail people for up to two years.

It comes as a new report reveals using mobile phone 'hands-free' kits can be just as lethal as being drunk behind the wheel. .

It was suggested to Director of Highways Bruce Hannay (pictured) that it might be better to deter people from committing the offence, rather than trying to catch them red handed, which was the method at present:
