Cause of fire investigated

by isleofman.com 18th December 2007
Over 20 firefighters tackled a blaze in a building which was used for the Viking Festival in Peel.

Crews from Peel and Douglas faced 'challenging conditions' in an incident which was hampered by strong winds and insufficient water supplies in the early stages.

The fire involved flat packed timber buildings which were stored on a site by the former Barfords Engineering site on Ramsey Road, Peel.

Crews were called out just before 5pm yesterday and a pump plus aerial ladder platform from Douglas assisted two appliances from Peel in bringing the flames under control.

The Water Authority also helped by boosting mains pressure in the area.

The fire was finally brought under control around 9pm, but crews remained at the scene for another 30 minutes to damp down the area.

The Peel to Ramsey road was closed by police for several hours.

There were no injuries but the cause of the fire is not known and will be subject to an investigation.
