Christmas fire safety advice

Don't drop your guard this Christmas where safety in the home is concerned.

That's the message from the Island's fire safety team, as many of us drape lights around the house and light candles.

It's a sobering thought that you are five times more likely to have a fire at Christmas than at any other time of the year, so it's usually an busy time for the Fire and Rescue Service.

Safety Officer Steve Cretney says the relaxed atmosphere at home has its dangers (audio file attached):
