Eight nominations for Education election

by isleofman.com 15th December 2007
The Department of Education has received eight nominations for the Board of Education seat for Douglas West.

Nominations for the position, left vacant following the death of Geoff Cannell in September, closed at 12 noon on Friday.

Each candidate must now be checked to verify they meet the criteria laid down in the Representation of the People Act 1995.

The Board of Education will meet on January 11 to select a candidate and ratify the appointment.

The new member, along with the 14 other existing members, will serve on the board until June 2009, by which time it is hoped to replace the elected board members with a new non-elected body of lay members.
