Disability legislation delayed

by isleofman.com 14th December 2007
The implementation of the Isle of Man's disability discrimination legislation is going to require additional resources.

Chief Minister Tony Brown says rolling out the new regulations has been considered by the Council of Minister's Social Policy Committee.

It was agreed specialist advice would be needed to develop the process, and officers are investigating the matter with a view to reporting back early next year.

North Douglas MHK Bill Henderson has questioned Mr Brown about the time it's taken to put, what he calls, 'this long overdue legislation' into practice.

Mr Brown (pictured) says the United Kingdom took ten years to implement its equivalent act, and he expects the time frame for the Island to be significantly shorter.
