BBC DAB reaches island today

Today is the day digital broadcasting arrives in the Isle of Man.

The BBC is switching on its first DAB transmitter, which will reach 52% of the population.

Eleven stations will be available, including Sports Extra, 6 Music and BBC 7.

Next year, Channel 4 will be opening a transmitter offering an additional eight to ten new radio stations.

However, at the moment there are no plans for Manx Radio or any of the other Isle of Man broadcasters to move to DAB, so if you're considering buying a DAB radio and want to keep listening to all our frequencies, make sure the set you buy offers both FM/AM and DAB reception.
