Survey remains confidential

The chairman of Isle of Man Post has again vowed to defend her employees’ right to confidentiality.

In Tynwald, Pam Crowe MLC restated why she wouldn't allow a survey undertaken by the Post Office board to be made available to MHKs and MLCs.

East Douglas MHK Brenda Cannell told members the document contained some very useful information, and she could see no reason for it not being made public.

However, her Tynwald motion was defeated.

Mrs Crowe (pictured) said it was an internal survey carried out ten months ago to find out the views of staff about certain issues. She said at the time it was made clear to those who took part that their answers would remain confidential. She also said extensive legal advice had been sought on the matter.

Mrs Cannell and others felt the results should be made public, with Michael MHK David Cannan claiming the matter was destabilising for the Post Office. He said some members had seen, or were in possession of, a black-market copy, but were unable to discuss its contents.

The motion was defeated after the Attorney General said it was only right to ask those employees who had completed the survey if they minded it being made public.
