Better road planning demanded

Gridlock in the centre of Douglas could be prevented if the Department of Transport started to think outside the box.

North Douglas MHK John Houghton says the DoT needs to review its strategic plan for traffic.

It follows a situation in July when a minor accident near the Nunnery on the Old Castletown Road caused severe congestion in Lower Douglas.

Mr Houghton believes this could have been easily avoided if motorists had been directed onto Peel Road or if Marine Drive had been reopened.

He asked the DoT Minister a number of the questions on the subject in the House of Keys this week, and was disappointed with David Anderson's response:
