Inquiry announced for Langness

by isleofman.com 28th November 2007
The protest group which has been fighting to get the footpath past Jeremy Clarkson's cottages at Langness reopened to the public, will get the chance to argue its case at an inquiry.

After taking legal advice, the Department of Transport says it intends to hold an Inquiry under section 117 of the Highways Act 1986. The inquiry will consider the status of a footpath on the Langness Peninsula.

The department says it has tabled a motion for the December sitting of Tynwald for the passing of a resolution to enable the person holding the inquiry to exercise powers conferred by the Inquiries (Evidence) Act 2003.

PROWL, the group fighting the path's closure by Mr Clarkson, believes there is a legal case for the path to become a statutory right of way.
