Benefits data safe says Minister

Health Minister Eddie Teare has reassured Keys members that Isle of Man child benefit data is held quite separately to that of the UK.

He was speaking in the House this morning (Tues) in response to an emergency question tabled by Michael MHK David Cannan, who had concerns after HM Revenue and Customs in the UK admitted the loss of two discs containing information on some 25 million people.

Mr Teare (pictured) says for those who have only ever lived on the Island and claimed benefit here, there is no possibility that the information could be contained on the discs.

However he DID confirm that data was routinely shared with the UK in order to ensure benefits covered by the reciprocal agreement between the Island and the UK can be paid:
