An inquest has heard how a man who died of a heroin overdose wasn't a regular user, and had promised his friends a quantity of the drug he had was for somebody else.
The body of 27 year old Peter James Egan was found in a communal area of the Woodside Hotel in Mona Drive, Douglas in the early hours of October 13.
Mr Egan's body was discovered by a fellow resident of the hotel who, at first, thought he was asleep. When he looked closer he saw drug paraphernalia, including a hyperdermic syringe. There was also a bottle cap containing a white, creamy liquid.
Paramedics were called and concluded he had been dead for about an hour.
Evidence showed Mr Egan had spent the day drinking and smoking cannabis with friends. He acquired the heroin that day, but said he wouldn't use it hemself and was keeping it for another friend.
Later he was found by a police officer slumped at the entrance to a multi-storey car park . However, he was able to stand up unaided and said he was going home.
He went to his friend's flat where he drank coke, left in the early hours of the morning and was later found outside the door.
Recording a verdict of 'accidental death' the Coroner, Michael Moyle said Mr Egan and his friends seemed to lead aimless lives. He added that, if it was up to him, more would be done to help people who became snared by heroin.
