Kennaugh and Blythe take Ghent win

by isleofman.com 26th November 2007
Manx cyclist Peter Kennaugh and Great Britain team mate Adam Blythe yesterday claimed the under-25 race at the Ghent Six-Day.

It's the first time a British team has won the supporting event in six years of travelling to the event in Belgium.

The two 18 year olds took the lead in the supporting event on the opening night before slipping to second place after Wednesday's session. However on Saturday the duo launched an attack and gained a lap on the Belgian leaders to reclaim top spot, and on Sunday they defended their lead from opponents up to six years their senior.

Mark Cavendish and Bradley Wiggins, racing together for the first time ahead an expected assault on a gold medal at the Beiling Olympics, struggled from the first night of the main event and ended the meeting tenth overall.
