Tenth straight win for Peel

by isleofman.com 24th November 2007
Peel took advantage of the weather to move joint top of the table on Saturday with a thumping 7-1 win at Douglas Royal.

With the match between leaders St George's and Laxey being postponed, the westerners moved level on points with the champions by continuing their superb form with a 10th straight win.

Promising talent Kerron Christian grabbed a brace and the goal threat all over the side was shown with Nigel Shimmin, Juan Killip, Marc Kelly, Kevin Megson and Tony Duggan all finding the net.

Elsewhere, St John's remain rooted to the foot of the table after suffering a 5-1 defeat at the hands of Corinthians, who continue their surge to safety as a result.

And it was the talented young partnership of Steve Glover and Jamie Stoy who did it again.

Glover scored a hat-trick for the second successive week with Stoy adding a double.

Jonny Holland netted the St John’s consolation.

Ramsey also remain in the drop zone and will be bitterly disappointed after a spirited display, only to be edged out 4-3 at home to Gymns.

Ashley Webster, Danny Oram and Robbie Cambell all scored for the home side but it was player-manager Ciaran McNulty (two), Carl Weir and an own goal which earned the points for Gymns.

And Rushen produced a super second half show to defeat Old Boys 5-2 at Croit Lowey.

The newly promoted side, for whom Sean Gavin and Gary Quirk were on target, were level at 2-2 at the break.

But Jack Saxon was the hero with a hat-trick, with Adam Cregeen and Aaron Hawley notching the others.
