Minister orders data safety review

Treasury Minister Allan Bell has ordered a thorough review of the government’s data protection systems following a scare in the UK.

This week, the UK government lost 25 million records of people receiving child benefit, including national insurance numbers, dates of birth and even bank details.

Mr Bell (pictured) says he wants to make sure nothing similar can ever happen in the Isle of Man and so work is already underway to check Manx computer systems.

He says he doesn’t believe there’s anything to worry about at present:
