Magistrate retires from bench

A well-known figure in the Manx courts has retired after a quarter of a century on the magistrates' bench.

John Kennaugh was appointed a Justice of the Peace for the then district of Peel in 1983 before becoming a JP for the whole Island when the districts amalgamated five years later.

Chairman of the Isle of Man Magistrates' Association, Charles Fargher, says he was a ‘very competent chairman whose experience and guidance will be missed by his fellow magistrates’.

Mr Kennaugh (pictured) says one case in particular gave him great satisfaction:
