War memorial plan on hold

by isleofman.com 20th November 2007
The campaign to establish an official body to look after war memorials in the Isle of Man has been delayed, after a vote in Tynwald today.

Michael MHK David Cannan's move to have a board of custodians set up was amended and the Council of Ministers will now consider its establishment, or that of a suitable body, and report back to the Court no later than April next year.

The amended motion was passed unanimously by both the House of Keys and the Legislative Council.

Ex-servicemen who have been volunteering their time to make sure the memorials are up to standard says some local authorities aren’t paying to keep them in good shape.
