Dismissed estate 'out of keeping'

by isleofman.com 20th November 2007
Malew and Santon MHK Graham Cregeen says a proposed development for a housing estate in Derbyhaven would have been "totally out of keeping" for the area.

He was speaking after planning permission for the development was turned down on appeal by an independent inspector following a two year campaign by local residents.

Developer Redford Limited - headed by businessman Graham Ferguson-Lacy, who also owns the adjacent Golf Links Hotel - wanted to build 17 houses and four apartments on the site, which previously had planning consent granted for one large home.

Mr Cregeen said he'd consulted quite a lot residents and also spoken to the developer and DOLGE officials:

Mr Cregeen admits it's possible that there will be another application at some future date, but he believes if it is for more than one house it is likely there will be further objections.
