'Disappointed' committee meets this evening

by isleofman.com 19th November 2007
The Committee of the Manx Motor Cycle Club is meeting this evening to discuss the consequences of no longer being involved in the running of TT fortnight.

On Friday evening, it was announced ACU Events Limited would take over the duty.

The body is a subsidiary of the Auto Cycle Union, the governing body for the sport in the UK, and will report directly to a new Co-ordinating Committee.

Sports Editor Tim Glover reports: (text, below, from attached audio file):

The new Co-ordinating Committee will be made up from the government departments for tourism, transport and home affairs. Also involved will be the Isle of Man Constabulary, the TT Marshals Association and senior race officials.

It will be responsible for all pre-event organisation, which takes place throughout the year, as well as off-course responsibilities during TT fortnight, such as traffic management and the festival.

The moves have come about following the resignation of the Manx Motor Cycle Club in late September.

However, Manx Radio understands the Club was hoping to negotiate a new contract and terms. Members of the committee are said to be 'shocked and disappointed' by Friday's announcement that ACU Events Limited will be taking over.
