Peel close gap

by isleofman.com 17th November 2007
Peel won the game of the day to maintain their superb form and move within three points of leaders St George's at the top of the Sure Mobile Premier League on Saturday.

Kevin Megson and Juan Killip were the scorers as they came from behind in a 2-1 win at newly promoted Old Boys, who had taken the lead through Sean Gavin.

Old Boys, the side of the season so far, battled well but the dismissal of goalkeeper Sam Halliday didn’t help their cause.

Former strike partners Steve Glover and Steven Priestnal underlined why they are two of the Island’s finest hit men as Corinthians and St Mary’s pulled off important wins.

Glover hit an impressive hat-trick as Corinthians beat Rushen 3-2 at Noble’s Park to climb away from the drop zone - footballer of the year Paul Jones and Aaron Hawley were the Rushen scorers.

And Priestnal went one better with a four goal haul as St Mary’s defeated Gymns 5-2 at Tromode.

Veteran Peter Langridge notched the other with Peter Dunn and an own goal the only bright spots for Gymns.

Lee Cowley and John Callow hit two apiece as Laxey overcame Douglas Royal 5-1 at Glen Road to move up to third.

Andreas Hijearth scored the other for the Miners with Johnny Baker on target for Royal.

A last-gasp goal from Jonathan Leece clinched what could be a very important point for struggling Ramsey as they gained a 1-1 draw at Union Mills, whose goal was scored by David Thomenny.

St John's remain rooted at the foot of the table after being thrashed 4-1 at Ayre United.

Island international Johnny Cowley (two), Alex Doddrell and Sam Ferguson were the Ayre marksmen.

Anthony Moore netted the St John’s goal.
