Elderly not getting allowances

A high percentage of residents in Island nursing homes aren’t receiving personal allowances they’re entitled to.

The claim was made in the House of Keys by Onchan MHK Peter Karran who says the elderly are missing out because they haven’t got sufficient funds to pay home charges.

Five out of seven Island nursing homes charge more than the figure recommended by the Office of Fair Trading.

Mr Karran says the Health Department should step in to ensure the allowances are paid:
