Civil Service retirement age

Current civil servants will have the choice to carry on working until 65, they won't be forced to.

This has been confirmed by Chairman of the Civil Service Commission John Houghton.

He'd faced questions about the retirement age being raised, during the House of Keys session yesterday.

Previously, though the retirement age was 60, workers could carry on by applying for one year extensions up to 65.

Speaking after the session, Mr Houghton stressed the decision would still be up to the individual:
