A woman is in hospital with serious injuries this evening, following an accident outside Peel earlier today.

It happened at about 8am on the St John's side of QE2 High School.

The two vehicles involved, a silver Renault Scenic car and a red Renault Master van, had been travelling towards St John's.

Police say the female driver of the Scenic was standing outside her stationary car when she was struck.

The road was closed for three hours while officers dealt with the incident and carried out investigations.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the vehicles involved prior to the accident is asked to ring the Road Policing Unit on 631212.
