Douglas man in UK disability campaign

A Douglas man hopes a new campaign he features in will help change attitudes toward disability, whether real or perceived.

Sixty-six year-old Irving Mellor voices Slim, a stick insect who uses a walking stick and explains how he felt when he first got it, in 'Creature Discomforts".

The campaign is the work of Nick Park's Aardman Animations, creators of Wallace and Gromit and the original Creature Comforts series, in conjunction with Leonard Cheshire Disability.

Mr Mellor (pictured) has suffered from spinal problems since he was 60, after years of heavy lifting while working as a cellarman.

He says he felt very self-conscious when he started using his stick:
