Sentenced for assaulting naval officers

by isleofman.com 12th November 2007
A 28 year-old man who assaulted two naval officers has been given a 60 day prison sentence, suspended for two years, by the High Bailiff, Michael Moyle.

Lee Paul O'Neill, of Hutchinson Square, Douglas appeared for sentence after admitting two offences of common assault.

He assaulted the two officers while they were on their way back to their ship at 11.30pm on September 15.

They were in Strand Street but ran on to Loch Promenade, followed by O'Neill.

O'Neill's advocate said the men accidentally bumped into the defendant's girlfriend but he decided to go after them to demand an apology. O'Neill claimed he was verbally abused by the two men, and assaulted them on Loch Promenade.

Mr Moyle accepted there was some provocation.
